1.  Puducherry’s 1st POPSK is inaugurated by Sushma Swaraj at Karaikal 

  • Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) is  first launched in the Jaunary in 2017. After its launched it is the 60th POPSK at Karaikal and first in the UT of Puducherry.
  • Puducherry CM- V. Narayanasamy and the Governor- Kiran Bedi.

2. Telangana and Tokyo (Japan)  Ink  MoU for Municipal Waste Incineration 

  • The MoU is signed in Hyderabad in between Telangana Government and Clean Authority of Tokyo in connection with the municipal solid waste incineration.
  •  The two bodies exchanged knowledge in municipal solid waste incineration technologies and make an effort to realize human resource exchanges by the use of technical cooperation in the future.
  • Telangana CM- K Chandrasekhar Rao, Governor- ESL Narasimhan.

3. Om Prakash Rawat Appointed as New Chief Election Commissioner

  • Om Prakash Rawat succeeded Achal kumar Joti whoes is going to retire and  to be  appointed as the next CEC. Earlier he is the election commissioner and now he will be 22nd CEC.
  • The  former finance secretary Ashok Lawasa is appointed as an Election Commissioner and  IAS  officer of 1980 batch and Sunil Arora is the other Election Commissioner. 
  • Mr Rawat will take over the office of CEC  from 23rd January 2018 onwards

4. Electron rocket launched from New Zealand

  • The rocket is successfully placed in the orbit carrying small commercial satellites.
  • According to the California-based company Rocket Lab its Electron rocket  carries only a small payload of about 150 kg and successfully deployed an earth imaging and other satellites for weather and ship tracking. 

5.  Cabinet secretary P.K. Sinha has recommended  the ISRO’s lithium-ion battery technology for the

commercial use under the ‘Make in India’ initiative for electric vehicles. 

6. Mangalajodi Ecotourism Trust of Odisha  is awarded with prestigious UNWTO Award

  • United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) award  for Innovation in Tourism Enterprise  is given to Mangalajodi Ecotourism Trust in Odisha  at 14th UNWTO Awards ceremony which is held in Madrid, Spain.
  • The award was given  for Mangalajodi’s business model that is both economically viable and environmentally sustainable based on principles of community ownership and Eco Tourism.

7. Rs. 80-cr bank fraud case is registered against PNB officials By CBI

  • The CBI has registered 22 cases  relating to fraud in bank loans processed by PNB officials on the basis of forged documents which causes the  loss of over Rs. 80 crore to the bank.
  • The cases is filed against  four branches of the bank that are in Bhopal and Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh.
  • According to the complaint  officials of PNB had fraudulently sanctioned and disbursed loans to private persons dealing in coal business from 2011 to 2016.

8. Year 2018 is declared as ‘national year of millets’ By Centre

  • This decision has been taken on the  request by Karnataka which is the country’s  highest producer  in the millet sector.
  • A three-day international trade fair of organics and millets is inaugurated  by Union Statistics and Programme Implementation Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda.

9. Odisha government launches OeHMIS project

  • Odisha e-Hospital Management Information System (OeHMIS) is aimed to design to provide a computerized platform for online recording of clinical parameters of patients and reporting of performance criteria of hospitals.
  • Under this  system, patients can be registered themselves  online and can view and download their individual electronic health records at their doorstep through web portal or mobile application.
  • The system is first started from the  Capital Hospital at Bhubaneswar and SCB Medical College Hospital at Cuttack.
  • OeHMIS project is launched by the state government along with the technical support of Centre for Development of Advanced Computing(CDAC), Noida.
  • The fund allocated for the scheme is 14.16 crore  under the state budget for implementation of project. The government is a targeting  to complete the project within two years.

10. Arunachal Pradesh CM  Pema Khandu Inaugurates World War II Memorial Museum at Jairampur

  • The Museum is opened at the Changlang District in Jairampur. The funding for building the museum is provided by the Union Ministry of Culture of Rs 2.25 crores and executed by state PWD.
  • The war memorial consists the collection of remnants of world war 2, personal belongings of the soldiers and other persons involve and some traditional items from local Tangsa community.

11. Malta’s Capital Valletta,  Becomes Europe’s Capital of Culture 2018

  • Valletta is going to share the title of European Capital of Culture 2018 with the a city of Netherlands, Leeuwarden.
  •  140 projects and 400 events have been announced  in 2018 in Valletta around three main themes: Island Stories, Future Baroque and Voyages.
  • The ‘European Capitals of Culture’ initiative  highlights  the diversity of European culture and to increase the citizens’ sense that they share  a common cultural area.
  •  Valletta is the smallest capital in the European Union it is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and it is located in the fortress.
